Butterfly Run | Adelaide SA
20/05/2012

Bonython Park, Adelaide SA

Leighton is proud to be the first national partner of the Touched by Olivia Foundation, helping to to build inclusive playgroudswhere children and adults of all abilities can play and interact. Projects together include Livvi's Place Five Dock, and other play spaces are in development in  in VIC and WA. There's been interest in developing an inclusive playground together in SA, so this fun run has been organised by one of the fantastic Leighton staffers in SA to generate donations and awareness

The Event

This will be a low support event, which simply means that anyone can turn up on the day and travel the suggested course in whatever manner suits them. The suggested starting time will be 9:00am, and the course will leave from Bonython Park. It will cross over to the north side of the river at the weir near Adelaide Gaol, travel along the shared pathway past the convention centre, before looping back over the pedestrian bridge after Adelaide Zoo, just before Hackney road, and returning to the starting point along the opposite bank. The course is around 8km long, although there are plenty of opportunities to take a bridge crossing at an earlier point for those who prefer a shorter option. This is an event where you do it your way, and everyone is invited to join in. The morning will be open to runners / walkers, and anyone interested in sparing some time for an hour or two to help marshal the event on the day.

If you’re not in Adelaide, then it’s very easy to create your own Butterfly Run in your home town.Contact Rebecca Ho at Touched by Olivia on 0414 506 606 for more information.

Make it Personal - From the organiser, Sara Harvey.

We tend to support those charities that are closest to our hearts. For me, I happen to know that I am extremely lucky in having two very healthy (rather naughty) children. My younger sister hasn’t been so lucky. About a year and a half ago she and her husband had twin girls, born at just 24 weeks. After fighting for a month, Ava passed away. Her sister Emily has definitely inherited the family ‘stubborn’ gene, and while she likes to present her family and her doctors with a series of ongoing challenges she is continuing to progress slowly. So I will be running for Ava and for Emily, because the playgrounds sponsored by this charity are for children like them. Come and help me celebrate the children that have touched your life.

Family Friendly

There are two playgrounds in Bonython Park, where you can leave your kids with a partner / friend / family and then go and enjoy the run / walk (that’s the plan, anyway). There is plenty of parking available, toilets, and picnic areas.

Contact Details
If you’re interested in participating, please feel free to contact Sara by emailing her at sara.harvey@leicon.com.au. This event is open to all – including family, friends, and anyone else who’d like to participate. Maps and location details will be provided to anyone who registers in advance, with extras available on the day. Thanks for your support.

Mayor's Big Bash - Celebrity Cricket Match | RYDE
04/03/2012

The Mayor of the City of Ryde in partnership with the Ryde Hunters Hill Pirates Cricket Club is hosting an annual charity match and Touched by Olivia Foundation has been chosen as the beneficiary charity in 2012.

In response to the idea that we often take things for granted, the Pirates Cricket Club established an Annual Charity Cricket Day in 2003 to raise money for organisations assisting children in need. The club has donated $10,000 to charities simply by harnessing the goodwill of the Pirates Seniors players, sponsors and friends. This year, the Pirates Club will partner with the City of Ryde to support the Touched by Olivia Foundation. Over 2000 local residents are expected to enjoy this fun family day as the Mayor’s XI, comprising local residents and sports stars, go head to head with the Pirates best.

Why? To promote active healthy living in the city of Ryde with a high profile event, raising funds for a community project - the Livvi's Place Inclusive Playground at Ryde
When? Sunday 4 March 2012 from 9am - 2pm
Where? Ryde Oval, Ryde
